Workshop Titles and Descriptions
Morning Schedule Options – 10:30 AM – 12 Noon (Pick One)
1. “YOU HAVE THE RIGHT…or do you? How to avoid getting arrested and what you should know if you do” – Your rights and responsibilities in law enforcement interactions.
Pittsfield Police Chief Michael Wynn and Attorney Judith Knight will present great information on your rights and responsibilities, providing successful strategies for community interaction between young people and police. Bring your questions and concerns!
2. “Girl Talk/Guy Talk”
This workshop is a chance to hear from local adults who have successfully faced the same kind of challenges and obstacles that youth face today. This workshop topic was specifically requested by the young people who planned the Youth Summit. It’s a chance for frank talk, and straight-forward questions and answers.
3. Real Talk: Conflict & Power
BRIDGE representatives, who are trained diversity leaders, will involve participants in a powerful discussion and activities that clarify the nature of conflict and how to prevent conflict from escalating, along with deepening the participant’s understanding of power and how it can be used and misused.
4. Art & Music
This session will explore and discuss the use of art and music for personal expression and growth. We will focus primarily on the creation of music in several forms and discuss the basics of how to write and produce a song and the resources in the area that support youth in these areas.
5. Taking Good Care of Yourself! Health, Nutrition & Fitness
This workshop will be lead by inspirational young people who have the expertise to share strategies for a healthier life.
6. Money Management
Do you have questions about how financial systems operate? How to start saving your money now? Do you want to know what to do with your money, or make a saving plan for college? Or the money you will have as you go forward in life? Come learn all about this topic with experts from the local banking community.

3. Real Talk: Race & Identity
BRIDGE representatives, who are trained diversity leaders, will show a film and involve participants in activities, and discussion that encourage the participants to appreciate and cherish their own identity along with those of others, with deepened levels of tolerance and appreciation for the ways in which we differ.

5. Live Light, Live Safe, Live Long: Drug & Alcohol Workshop
This group will not tell you how to live your life, but will give you information and support on to make your life last as long as it possibly can! This workshop will provide a confidential space to ask questions about underage drinking, drugs, addiction, and peer issues related to partying and substance abuse. We will also do activities with additional topics based on what youth would like to speak about. Topic choices include: How to make Safer Choices, Ways to say NO, and How to cope with stress without relying on drugs or alcohol.
6. Everything I Need to Know About Finding and Keeping a Job!
An employment specialist will discuss all the factors that you need to consider in order to successfully navigate the work world.
